The State of California (Community Care Licensing) sets and monitors the requirements and regulations of foster care licensing.
Who can be foster and adoptive parents?
You can be single or part of a couple; own or rent your home; must have sufficient income to meet your own expense and bills but there are no income limitations; be over 18 years old; willing and able to care for children.
Financial assistance
Financial assistance (Foster Care Payments) is available for all dependent children placed in out-of-home care. The rate of payment is established by the State and the County Board of Supervisors and is governed by the age of the child. Payments are intended to help cover the costs of the child's food, on-going clothing and personal needs, transportation, entertainment and shelter needs. The child also has medical coverage under Orange County's CalOPTIMA managed care system.
