Dear Faith-based Partner,
There are children in your communities that are separated from their families due to child abuse. Our hope is that someday they can return to their families and communities. However, many of these children will not return home and others will wait a long time before they can go home. In the meantime, they need foster and adoptive homes that will care for them. It is likely that we may have children that are already in your community staying with relatives and foster parents. Yet, there are many children waiting for a home, a family that will take care of them.
We believe that religious institutions such as yours, because of your broad base, deep historical roots, and accessibility to children, family neighborhood, and community, possess a unique ability to promote adoption and foster care. You can get the message out that both adoptive and foster families are desperately needed for children that have been abused or neglected in your own communities. We also believe that there are many foster and adoptive homes that need continued support for the children they are caring for. These foster and adoptive families may be within your own congregations.
To that end, we believe that together with the faith-based community we can obtain the adoptive and foster care families we need to nurture and support children and their families in crisis.
This is a unique collaboration between Orange County faith-based communities and Children and Family Services to recruit and retain loving homes for children who have come into the county’s care due to abuse and/or neglect.
One of our goals is to recruit and retain licensed families as foster and adoptive parents from each participating congregation.
Additionally, each congregation will have the opportunity to develop support services for their foster and adoptive families.
It is our sincere hope that you will invite your congregation to work with us to find and support foster and adoptive families. Let’s build bridges and work together to provide the solid foundation that these children need in order to become productive adults.
You and your congregation have the power to dramatically impact the lives of children and families in your community, in your places of worship. We look forward to creating a strong and lasting partnership with you and your congregation. Our children thank you as well.
